HERC
font
The objective was to take an existing typeface and modifying it to fit a specific genre of music. I started with the font Miller, and completely changed it to create, Herc, a font inspired by Hip-Hop. It was inspired by the music, art, and culture that surrounds the genre, specifically its earlier days.
This font was then applied to the brand identity I created for a cafe venue inspired by the genre.

WHY HERC?
The font is inspired by Hip-Hop, which originated in the 70's in the Bronx, New York City. The genre was and continues to be a cultural movement.
DJ Kool Herc is recognized as one of the founders of the genre. On August 11,1973 DJ Kool Herc was entertaining at a block party, where he tried something new - using his turntable he would extend the instrumental (this is known as breaking or scratching), letting people dance for longer while he rapped over the beat.
I named my font, Herc, after the father of Hip-Hop himself to honor him and his great contributions to Hip-Hop. And to introduce him to people who may not know of him. This font was then applied to the brand identity of the cafe and venue I created Rhythm & Rhyme.
